What is Credit Card On File and why is it required?

Credit Card On File (CCOF) is a PCI compliant way of storing a credit card and recalling it later for payment.  The concept is similar to that of a hotel, car rental company, and other businesses requiring payment at a later date.  Once a claim is sent to your Insurance company and processed, any remaining amount that you owe (according to the insurance company's Explanation of Benefits) will be charged to your credit card.
